"London’s Sauna Youth follow up their acclaimed debut lp 'Dreamlands' with a brand new two track single on Static Shock, but those who are only hoping for Dreamlands Pt.II are likely to be disappointed. This is (for this release, at least) Sauna Youth reborn as a c86 indie pop band. These two female fronted tracks sound so good they could have been released back in the day on the Subway Organization or 53rd and 3rd. The music is raw and simple like a slowed down Ramones but the vocals are sugar sweet with lots of backing harmonies. If you love the Fizzbombs, The Flatmates or The Rosehips you will instantly fall in love with these two perfect under three minute indie pop gems." - Sean Forbes

Oxnard, California's Sea Lions came over to the UK for the first time in July 2012 for Indietracks fest and embarked on a tour with London / Glasgow group Golden Grrrls. To commemorate the occasion they released a limited tour 7" which now sees a world wide release. Both bands contributed an original song and a cover version. Sea Lions take apart 'Nervous Breakdown' by Black Flag, turning it into a shambling nugget of shrill guitar versus Adrian Pillado's laconic vocal delivery and contributed 'On and Off' - as close to an anthem as Sea Lions get. Golden Grrrls tackle 'I Don't Want You Anyway' by kiwi group Look Blue Go Purple, remaining fairly faithful to the original with some added punk energy, while their original is a garage pop bullet in the form of 'Billy,' which sees Ruari MacLean take lead vocal to counter the female backing. 4 songs as good as any you're going to hear this year.

Following a promising demo last year, Liverpool's Violent Reaction finally release their debut 7" ep. Six tracks of undiluted hardcore punk that are more influenced by Discharge, Poison Idea, Out Cold and Blitz than the likes of Youth Of Today, VR is for those who like their straight edge hardcore a little more antisocial. The record comes in an A3 wraparound sleeve and handstamped coloured innersleeves..

One of our favorite demos of the year is now as 45rpm 7" on PKR. Carrying on the traditions of previous Toronto acts Urban Blight and Bad Choice (of which they share personnel), Violent Future arrive with their first recording -- originally a self released cassette -- of thuggishly played, classically trained HARDcore. Six stompers of futuretro crunch towing the same 4-Skins w/ Hodges/YDI/Iron Cross/Chaos UK buffet their previous bands were known for, but with the most ignorant drumming you've yet laid ears on. Recording by some famous indie rock dude.

"Following a couple of demo tapes that didn't really do them any favours, London's NO did what most bands should do, namely go back to the practice space and work on writing better songs, not even really playing live in the meantime. After a while, everything finally clicked and they recorded this killer record. Eight tracks of ferocious, desperate hardcore punk played by misfits (some of whom also play in Satellites Of Love, Shitty Limits and Tremors) that sounds rooted in the sounds of early Richmond and Mid-Western American hardcore (comparisons to Die Kruezen, a more rabid White Cross and Mecht Mensch aren't completely invalid), but not stuck completely in the past. Recorded at Chuckalumba by the fellow who handled the early Electric Wizard lp's, this is going to be seen as an essential document of UK Hardcore in years to come."

"The first two singles from North Carolina, USA's Brain F≠ left a lot of people scratching their heads: Is it garage? Is it hardcore? (It's definitely punk.) How did they write such catchy riffs? How do you pronounce "F≠?" Brain F≠'s debut long player, Sleep Rough, will force you to ponder those same questions and may breed even more (and we mean that in the best way possible). Everything has been amped up for this release... the hard stuff is harder, the catchy stuff is catchier (oh, is it catchy!), and the weird stuff is weirder. There's no need for band comparisons, but if you're into that sort of thing then imagine the SAINTS' minds in TEENGENERATE and the AVENGERS' bodies sent to a dystopian future. Really, though, this sounds like the year 2011; if you like huge guitars, endless vocal hooks, and a turbo-charged rhythm section (you do), then you need to hear this record."

After almost two years in the making, the DEAF MUATIONS 7" is finally now available to order. DEAF MUTATIONS is the brainchild of Dave Brown (also of Career Suicide) and they play violent, hardcore punk that wouldn't sound out of place on the Master Tape comp. The recordings on this 7" were originally released in late 2008 as a very limited cassette that didn't really make it out of Toronto. So needless to say, we're pretty thrilled to put this out and hopefully help this recording get the attention it deserves.

Following from a well received demo tape (under the name Brain Flannel), the debut 7” from North Carolina, USA’s Brain F (featuring members of Logic Problem and Grids) is now available to order. This two track 45 kicks off with Restraining Order, which was originally on the demo, and definitely one of the more catchy tracks to be committed to vinyl this year. I saw them described once as “when X (US), X (Australia), Teengenerate and Messthetics collide”, and as dumb as that may sound, it actually makes sense. The songs are bass driven, have scratchy guitar-work and have really impressive interloping male/female vocals that make this stand out.

Following on from last years 'More Reality' 12" ep on Slasher Records, Toronto's Urban Blight are back with five new tracks of blown out hardcore punk. These new tracks, while still mining the Abused / SSD sound, also bring forth the Discharge and The Insane infulence even more. This is hardcore as it's meant to be. The 7" comes housed in a 6 panel poster sleeve, to go up next to all of the Crass and UK82 ones on your wall.
